Jerry Falwell (pastor, televangelist, co-founder of the Moral Majority) passed away yesterday. Hopefully some of his social policies passed with him. Here are his Top 10 quotes to remind people why voting is important:
10. It appears that America's anti-Biblical feminist movement is at last dying, thank God, and is possibly being replaced by a Christ-centered men's movement which may become the foundation for a desperately needed national spiritual awakening.
9. Textbooks are Soviet Propaganda.
8. The idea that religion and politics don't mix was invented by the Devil to keep Christians from running their own country.
7. He is purple - the gay pride color - and his antenna is shaped like a triangle - the gay pride symbol. (RE: Teletubby Tinky Winky).
6. Grown men should not be having sex with prostitutes unless they are married to them.
5. The ACLU is to Christians what the American Nazi party is to Jews.
4. AIDS is not just God's punishment for homosexuals; it is punishment for the society that tolerates homosexuals.
3. If you're not a born-again Christian, you're a failure as a human being.
2. Civil wrongs movement. (RE: Civil rights movement).
1. Throwing God out of the public square, out of the schools, the abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be mocked and when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad...I really believe that the pagans and the abortionists and the feminists and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People for the American Way, all of them who try to secularize America...I point the thing in their face and say "you helped this happen." I totally agree with number 9. Here is a great post on Falwell's death on a great blog: http://girlinshortshorts.blogspot.com/2007/05/jerry-falwell-now-in-hell.html
link didnt' work right. just go here: http://girlinshortshorts.blogspot.com
Falwell...kind of a dick.
Two others I enjoy:
"Labor unions should study and read the Bible instead of asking for more money. When people get right with God, they are better workers."
"I hope to see the day when, as in the early days of our country, we don't have public schools. The churches will have taken them over again and Christians will be running them."
Oh! And if you haven't seen it, see the clip of Christopher Hitchins talking about Falwell and the Falwell legacy on Anderson Cooper the other night. He calls him a toad, among other things.
Hitchens is enjoying a Meteoric rise in my Top Atheist Rankings. I'm probably going to buy his new book, "God Is Not Great," in the next two weeks. He is absolutely killing on TV right now. Check out Youtube. He went on Hannity & Colmes and talked louder than Hannity for a whole segment. I'm still wary because apparently he was a big proponent of the war, but damn, he gives good TV.
